CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE AND ORGANIZE YOUR TRIP
We offer you a series of tours of Navarra below. In each one we include two hiking trails, three places of interest and the best restaurants in each area. Do not pretend to cover everything, it is more about choosing what we most want, always trying to combine the enjoyment of nature, with history, culture and the pleasure of gastronomy. This is, without a doubt, one of the best way to get to know the essence of Navarra.
THE CAPITAL

PAMPLONA / IRUÑA
Pamplona is the capital of Navarra and has a population of 200.000 inhabitants. It is a modern, clean, green city with great commercial, industrial and service activity. The tourist visit focuses on its historic center with its walls, the cathedral and the route of the confinement. Then there are many other Pamplonas: the university, the night, the party, the pinchos, the cultural and all that you want to discover ...
ROUTES RECOMMENDED BY NAVARRE AND INTERACTIVE PDF

OLITE - BARDENAS BLANCA
La Bardena is the northern desert, and due to its peculiarity, it is an almost obligatory visit when arriving in Navarra. The other essential visit is the Olite castle, one of the most beautiful in all of Spain. Nearby is the town of Ujué, perched in the mountains and already, further apart, the monastery of La Oliva. This route takes us from the Bardena to the middle Navarra, but you can vary your itinerary to visit Tudela and the Ribera de Navarra.

TUDELA - BARDENA NEGRA
Although we group them in the same route, the normal thing would be to divide them in two, to save kilometers of road: on the one hand the climb to the head of the Fraile in Bardena Negra with the visit to Tudela and its spectacular cathedral, and on the other the path up to the rock formations of Las Roscas, next to Fitero and its monastery to finish in the nearby town of Corella, with its palaces and churches, and its tradition of bars and good pinchos.

TIERRAS DE JAVIER - FOCES
We are going to an area with a lot of history, the one provided by the Leyre monastery and Javier Castle. It is the land of Sangüesa, capital of the mountain merindad, with a milder climate than the north, well connected by highway and with two spectacular walks around the Lumbier and Arbayún gorges.

RONCAL VALLEY - PYRENEES
Roncal is a hidden valley, with its villages of mountain houses in the shadow of the snowy peaks of the Pyrenees. The routes here are more demanding, the highest peaks, but also the most spectacular views. After fatigue comes rest in the cozy villages of the valley, all worth visiting.

SALAZAR VALLEY - IRATI JUNGLE
The Irati Forest is the largest beech and fir forest in Europe. To get there you have to travel miles of narrow mountain roads. The two access doors are from Ochagavía, one of the most beautiful towns in Navarra, and from Orbaizeta. In between is the cozy town of Jaurrieta and a little further away the Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles, the starting point of the Camino de Santiago.

VALLE BAZTAN - LANDS OF THE NORTH
It is a land impregnated by the Basque culture and of a beauty based on its meadows, forests, rivers and villages with huge hamlets. Baztán is the best known valley, but Urdax, Zurragamurdi and the Bidasoa area share common characteristics and landscape. The road from Pamplona has excessive truck traffic, but with patience you can get there without difficulty. Already in the valley you will find endless paths and charming corners to visit.

PLAZAOLA - SIERRA DE ARALAR
It is a land in which Basque culture reigns, which is reflected in the Basque language, the great farmhouses and ancient traditions. The Sierra de Aralar has large forests, deep caves, and the densest set of megalithic constructions in Navarra. In the valleys, the farmhouses are spread around the meadows and rivers, and the lacha sheep, so characteristic of the area, produce the tasty Idiazabal cheese. The towns are small, except for Lekunberri and Leitza, which grew faster than expected, but which have interesting historical centers to visit.

ESTELLA - SIERRA DE URBASA
Lands of Estella and the Natural Park of Urbasa are united. The first offers its history and its many monuments of interest, and the second spectacular landscapes. Urbasa has an area of 21.000 ha of beech forests and mountain pastures, and a subsoil of limestone rocks that gives rise to a karst landscape full of chasms and underground galleries. The area is easily accessible, as it is very well served by the highway that connects Pamplona and Logroño.

SANTIAGO'S ROAD
This guide has been designed and edited by "La Guía Ilustrada" to offer pilgrims the most complete information on the Camino de Santiago in Navarra, which includes all services, hostels, hotels, restaurants, etc. that you may need to make your route as comfortable and safe as possible. For this we have had the experience of "JACOTRANS, services to the pilgrim", a pioneer company in offering the pilgrim the transport of luggage and services along the entire Camino.
