ARESO, MOUNT ULIZAR
Located on the muga-border with Gipuzkoa, Areso was burned in 1794 by French troops. It re-emerged on the same slope, with its beautiful silhouette surrounded by the same mountains and grasslands. We present a mountain route, to the top of Ulizar, in which you have to climb slopes and exhaust your legs, but where the views and beech forests compensate for the efforts. At the end of the route we will approach an octagonal laundry room from 1915 where we will remember the arduous task of washing clothes in such cold waters.
The summit offers a wide panoramic view of the Aralar mountain range and Gipuzkoa. Nearby are the ruins of the old hermitage of Santa Cruz.

In 1820 the old hermitage on Mount Ulizar collapsed and the Aresoarras built a new one, somewhat further down.
It was built in 1924. It has large balconies crowned with the Areso shield and a portico that overlooks the town square and the pediment.
Located on a high rise, it is a neoclassical building from the 19th century. The bell tower was a donation from the Indian Domingo Nazabal.
The Indians were emigrants to America who, when they made a fortune, returned to their land to build opulent houses.
At the end of the route we will approach an octagonal laundry room from 1915 where we will remember the arduous task of washing clothes in such cold waters.
