Carcastillo is one of the gateways to the Bardenas desert, the last stage for the transhumant shepherds who arrive through the Cañada Real de los Roncaleses. A land of passage, and therefore hospitable, it is located in the fertile plain of the Aragón River and next to the old Cistercian monastery of La Oliva. Carcastillo was a border land, first between Christians and Muslims and then between Navarrese and Aragonese and on those borders the monastery arose and the town prospered next to it. They went through the War of Succession and the War of Independence together and after the confiscation of Mendizabal Carcastillo continued its growth and development on its own, with the arrival of new people and the progressive implementation of industries, and so on to this day.
