Nice tour along the Larraun river, visiting the Ixkier waterfall. It is a route recently recovered in Auzolan with the help of Iturraskarri, the City Council and the Mugiro council. Half of the route runs along the old Plazaola Railway line, currently converted into a greenway.
DIRECT FROM PAMPLONA TO SAN SEBASTIÁN: This is how the local press titled the news of the inauguration of the Plazaola train in 1914. A train that would link the cities of Pamplona and San Sebastián until the disastrous floods of 1953, which forced the route to be permanently closed. . An attractive 85km route, dotted with tunnels, bridges, stations, canteens, tanks, etc. which since the end of the XNUMXth century have been recovered as part of an attractive greenway, Plazaola, ideal for enjoying walks, leisure activities, cycling, etc. in a place of exceptional beauty.

PRACTICAL TIPS
– It is advisable to do the route during times when it has rained to enjoy its waterfalls. To do this, it is important to have good mountain footwear, because we may encounter mud during the route.
– We left the car without problems in Mugiro, where at the end of the tour we can have something to eat at the town inn.
– The Intzoa, Zubidenea and Beltzuntze bridges are crossed. It is perfectly equipped with indicator posts and railings in some sections. The environment is fantastic.
– The route runs along the edge of the Larraún River. It has no loss. The town of Mugiro is located at the top, therefore, as soon as we leave we will descend to the river bank. – First we will go along the Plazaola greenway and return along a path on the other side of the river that runs through the forest.
– Almost at the end of the route, before crossing again to reach the Ixkier waterfall, there is a water tank at the top of the mountain. For the more daring, you can climb some slippery stairs to enjoy impressive views.
– Finally we will return to Mugiro climbing a long staircase integrated into nature.
