THREE TOURIST VISITS
Eugui, Roncesvalles and Valcarlos are three treasures of Navarre that offer a unique blend of history, culture and nature. Roncesvalles, immortalised in medieval epics, is a place of great importance for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. Its Gothic collegiate church and its history as the scene of the famous Battle of Roland make it an essential point of visit, full of spirituality and cultural legacy. Here, the atmosphere is one of contemplation and wonder, with monuments that tell stories of faith and resistance.
RONCESVALLES / ORREAGA
It is the most common starting point for pilgrims to Santiago. The church of Santa María is one of the best examples of Navarrese Gothic.
VALCARLOS / LUZAIDE
THE BATTLE OF RONCESVALLES. Charlemagne and his troops, as they passed through the Pyrenees, were defeated in the Luzaide / Valcarlos ravines by the Vascones. The defeat had a great echo and was sung and reproduced hundreds of times throughout the Middle Ages. Since then, the legends and myths about that event have been known throughout Europe.
