The Urdax caves were inhabited by our ancestors, in different periods of the Paleolithic and Mesolithic. The famous French speleologist, Norbert Casteret, discovered in 1930 “a beautiful shelter under rocks” Berroberria and “a cave with engravings” Alkerdi. The engravings located at the end of the corridor in the Alkerdi cave are made on a stalagmitic cast; We see a bison and a deer, the third is probably a horse. Its dating would correspond to the Upper Magdalenian, about 13.000 years ago. Currently we cannot visit these drawings, for conservation reasons.
