Church of San Andrés

The Church of Saint Andrew, built in the first half of the 16th century in the Gothic-Renaissance style, underwent renovations throughout the 18th century. Its outstanding main altarpiece, made in the second third of the 16th century by Berruguete y Joly, presents an interesting iconographic repertoire. In the central niche there is a seated Saint Andrew.

The church has characteristics typical of those located on the Camino de Santiago, such as the climbing stairs for pilgrims arriving from the Los Arcos path and the exit stairs that led them to the Torres del Río path. The tower, with its lantern, was illuminated at night to guide pilgrims.

Civil architecture

In Plaza del Rollo and along Calle San Andrés are the most representative buildings and coats of arms of the town, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Next to the square stands a beautiful house emblazoned in the Catholic Monarchs style, which, despite its state of conservation, is still an interesting visit. There are many houses with heraldic stone shields displaying the weapons of local families, dating mostly from the 17th and 18th centuries.
