It is one of the fourteen towns that make up the Salazar Valley. A Pyrenean town between Roncesvalles and the Roncal Valley, very close to the Irati jungle. The urban complex is characterized by its cobbled streets and the stately appearance of its Pyrenean houses with steeply sloping roofs and flat tiles. Livestock town, with sheep and Pyrenean cows; Agricultural, potatoes are grown for seed and consumption; and a large part of its extension is forested, with pine, beech and oak.

The history of Ezcároz is part of that of the entire valley. The entire valley forms a single community, with a single mayor who is called mayor.

Parish church

The town of Ezcároz has a Parish Church of Gothic construction from the late 16th century.

The Presbytery is presided over by a main altarpiece, dedicated to San Román, a transitional work from the first Renaissance to Romanism, attributed to the Sangüesa sculptor Miguel de Casanova y Aibar.

Hermitage of Santa María Magdalena

At the exit of the town is the Gothic Hermitage of Santa María Magdalena. In 1.174, Alexander III designated Santa María de Ezcároz as Leire's possession, which we do not know if it is the current Hermitage of Santa María Magdalena.

Traditional homes

In traditional homes, the doorways with large voussoirs and mullioned windows stand out.

THE MILL

In 1767 the mill was built, which is currently disused, although the machinery is preserved.

In 1907, after a great flood that washed away the wooden dam, the current one was built.

  • JASULE PATH

    CIRCULAR ROUTE – Distance 5,4 KM Beautiful circular mountain walk of 5,4 km in length that runs through the surroundings of Ezkaroz, the Jasule waterfalls, the Xoxo ravine, the Axarixiloa cave, the Ezkaroz viewpoint… Leaving the Church of Ezkaroz there is an explanatory panel, and from there the entire route is marked with yellow marks and wooden signs, very clearly and without loss (see photo of the info panel).
