INFERNUKO ERROTA

HELL MILL

Located in a forest that seems enchanted, the trees twist into shapes that look like animals. A beautiful route, easy to do even with children (being careful with the gorges), in a fairy-tale environment, until you reach the hell mill (Infernuko errota). They went there in times of war with donkeys loaded with corn to make flour in this mill. They did it clandestinely so that they would not be caught and thus avoid sabotage or paying high taxes. Access to the beginning of the routes is through a section of the NA 4453 highway (13 km) that is narrow, with winding curves, so we must go slowly. Read more

to make way for cars coming in the opposite direction. It will be a bit heavy, but at the same time we will enjoy a spectacular landscape. To take the detour on this road we have to be attentive. Just after passing the Oronoz Mugaire tunnels towards Elizondo, on the left we will find some quarries. Access begins there (it is signposted).

PRACTICAL TIPS

-There is the possibility of taking two routes, the short and the long.
-Long route:
-We leave the car at the point indicated on the map (Irigoiengo Borda) next to a panel on the road. We will begin the tour from the top of the valley with an impressive panoramic view of forests and colors.
-The beginning occurs with a steep descent until reaching the river. From here, we will go the entire route parallel to the river.
-On the way back we can go up the hill along the orange route on the map. We will reach a fence that we can open and cross a private plot, until we reach the starting point.
-Short route:
-In the middle of the long route we will find the Etxebertzeko Borda restaurant, a perfect place to eat (it has a fronton and a fish farm) with access from the road.
-We can start the tour from here and avoid half of the tour.
