IRULEGUI CASTLE

TAJONAR SAW

Irulegui is a mountain on which a castle stands in a strategic position, dominating the Pamplona basin and the Lizoáin valley, which guarantees privileged views, which the Basques, its first inhabitants, had to warn of the incursions of Moors or Franks over the city of Pamplona. The walk is very pleasant, it crosses a beautiful forest and then climbs to the peaks along a steep path. We will rest in the ruins of the castle imagining that in the distance the enemy is approaching.

PRACTICAL TIPS

-We start this tour in the small town of Laquidáin, try to park as little as possible. You can go up to Irulegui by many paths, we have chosen the one that seems most attractive to us but it is up to you.

-The castle is in ruins, which is a shame, but at least we get an idea of what it could have been like back in the Middle Ages. The views of Pamplona and the entire basin are worth it.

-Be careful when going down from Irulegui, especially if it has rained, since the path is very steep.
