In the 12th century, Cistercian monks from France settled in the Monastery of La Oliva and applied the maxim ora et labora. Given the peculiarities of the place, they dedicated
to wine-growing tasks as a means of living.
This important tradition has been captured in the stones of its medieval cloister, in whose ornamentation the wine scenes and especially the plant and the fruit of the vine are frequent. It is the only monastery that continues to make its wine with grapes from its own vineyards, thus carrying out the entire production and elaboration process in an artisanal way. Both in the harvest, which is done by hand, and in the winery work where the grapes are selected and processed maintaining the oldest monastic tradition. One year after the harvest, our
wines are offered in “primeur” in an event held in the monastery's Gothic cellar and after a wine tasting. In addition, the wines are sold in the monastery store along with other top quality monastic products.
