Lekunberri means “good new place” since, due to its border location, throughout its history it was razed and rebuilt numerous times. Today it is a large town, full of commercial activity, and with a very well-kept old town. Its old town has all the charm of Basque towns with its large hamlets. PLAZAOLA GREENWAY AND TRAIN STATION

BEAUTIFUL SHIELDS
In the year 1192, King Sancho the Wise granted a charter to the residents of the town, by which the pechas (taxes) of this villainous community of royal lordship were unified and updated. In the year 1397, Charles III the Noble, gave the Franks of the valley and their descendants a privilege, with which all its inhabitants became noblemen with identical rights. In 1514, Ferdinand the Catholic confirmed what the shield should be like: it consists of a tree with a wolf before it, and gules (red) sticks, weapons of the Kingdom of Navarra and the Crown of Aragon.
