BIRTH OF ARTETA,

OLLO VALLEY AND ARTAZUL WATERFALL

We will approach the Ollo valley for a pleasant walk between cereal fields, forests, towns and as a backdrop the Andía mountain range, from where the Arteta source emerges, the most unique element of this route along with the Artazul waterfall. , dry in summer, but of singular beauty even without water. On the way back we will find the salt mines, with their old restored facilities.

Distance: 7,8 km. Circular

PRACTICAL TIPS

-The Ollo valley is somewhat hidden, in the shadow of the Andía mountain range. Access is from the road that connects Ororbia with Irurzun, with little traffic but in its final stretch it narrows and has quite a few curves so you should drive with caution.

-As the route is circular, we have several options to park the vehicle and start the walk: in Arterta, Ultuzurrun or in the birthplace parking lot, any of them are valid. Try to park as little as possible.

-The route is very well signposted with vertical signs and white and orange markings. In summer, the section that enters the Artazul ravine is not difficult, but the waterfall has no water. When there is, the access road is usually flooded so your shoes will get wet and the final path becomes slippery so be careful.

-The salt flats, the views of the mountains and the towns in the valley are other attractions of this route.
