DESCRIPTION AND WHAT TO SEE IN PERALTA
On the edge of the mighty Arga and at the foot of a steep rock is located this town of 5.800 inhabitants that has found its most recent prosperity in the industrial sector. With more than two millennia of combative history, in 1444 it obtained the Fuero de Jaca for its loyalty to the Castilian troops, new wars devastated its castle until it was almost completely demolished after the conquest of the kingdom of Navarra by Cardinal Cisneros, and it suffered new sieges in the War of Independence and in the Carlists. Now it grows peacefully around its historic center, with its walks along the river and its large industrial estate, the driving force of the town and the entire region.
HISTORIC HELMET
The Calle Mayor is the main artery of the town, around which the different guilds were organized, still maintaining their imprint in the names of the streets: Butchers, Vegetables, Weavers, etc. Various palaces and houses from the Baroque period, with beautiful brick facades topped with galleries of arches, and ennobled with shields, give character to its old town.
BRIDGE
Its wide arches have medieval origins but were considerably renovated during the 17th century. Next to the Arga River, pleasant walks and recreation areas have been set up.
CASTLE
Once a powerful construction of high walls and moats, today its condition is dilapidated. We will barely find the remains of one of its walls with a crude door, what was the cistern and the “Pozo de los Moros” which, it seems, served as an escape route to the river and to use water.

RIFLE TOWER
Dominating the Ribera Navarra from a promontory we find this simple construction with loopholes.
SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST
Of the old Gothic-Renaissance temple, only its elegant 18th century tower remains, a symbol of the town.
CAVES
On the rocky wall next to the Arga let's find some of them. Until 1930, 20% of the people of Peralte lived in them, but today they are barely used and their condition is dilapidated.
