TOWNS AND MONUMENTS OF ESTELLA LAND
You can go to Estella by the highway or by the Camino de Santiago, which being the same route, one way of traveling has little to do with the other. On foot or by car we will approach the small church of Santa María de Eunate, a solitary temple that owes its fame and mystery to its centralized octagonal plan and its perimeter arch. Resuming our march we will reach Estella, a city located between rocks and next to the Ega River, which was founded by and for the Camino de Santiago, and it owes its development and its many monuments to him, so many that over time it would be known as Estella la Bella. . Nearby we will find the old Iranzu monastery that was revived from ruins and abandonment in a spectacular and secluded enclave that can only be accessed after crossing narrow gorges, as the founding fathers did in their day. And all that remains is to continue the Camino (or the highway) to Viana, the last stop before entering the Community of La Rioja. Its past glories come from its border condition, and few enclaves like this one can resist the onslaught of history. There is a beautiful church, that of Santa María, very well preserved, and another half in ruins, that of San Pedro, both worth visiting. The Camino towards Santiago is already moving away... but that is another story, and content for another guide.
