This route is easy, we park in the town of Mués and walk in the direction of the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Cuesta, after traveling about 900 meters we turn left. We climb the hill for 1,8 kilometers to reach the baroque style basilica dedicated to San Gregorio Ostiense, which is located on the side of the Camino de Santiago.
Returning to the path, we travel 500 meters until we reach a fork in the path where we will head to the right, towards the hermitage of the Virgen de la Guarda located on top of a peak that we reach after traveling 600 meters. a demanding slope.
We retrace our steps, descending to the fork and continuing along the path heading to the right. Approximately 1,3 kilometers away are some enormous stone monoliths and the largest one is near Piñalba.
Some sections run along paths without shade, so you should wear appropriate clothing and sun protection.
We descend, and then climb to the top of Murillo, which is 700 meters ahead. At this point we are already 1,3 kilometers away from the starting point.
– Arriving along the road from Los Arcos we can see the sanctuary of San Gregorio Ostiense at the top of the mountain. We will park in Mués trying to disturb as little as possible.
– The route takes us directly to the sanctuary, but we have included a detour to the hermitage of the Virgen de la Guarda, mostly because the views are spectacular, with the sanctuary and the Codés mountain range in the background.
– The sanctuary is usually closed, which is a shame because the interior is luminous baroque. We will have to settle for contemplating its sculptural portico.
– The route is not signposted but is easy to follow.
– This route does not have water sources so you should bring enough, as well as sandwiches and a snack.
