WHAT TO SEE IN SAN FERMÍN

On July 6 at twelve noon and with the launch of the chupinazo from the balcony of the City Hall, a party breaks out that will last nine days and nine nights, a world-famous event in which joy is an essential requirement for everyone. who wants to live it. The running of the bulls is the tradition that makes it unique, a race in which six brave bulls are guided by the young men through the streets of the historic center of the city. They have achieved such fame that the population of this quiet provincial city multiplies until it reaches a million visitors, all dressed in white and red, and all ready to enjoy the party.

GENERAL TIPS

PRACTICAL TIPS

The best way to enjoy the party is for someone from Pamplona to invite you to meet them. If this is not the case, you should keep in mind that the most important thing is the spirit, you come to Pamplona to have fun, everything is allowed as long as it is funny, borders on surrealism and does not bother you. It is a kind of controlled chaos, in which although it may not seem like it, there is a schedule that is strictly followed and a strict service of order.

During the week the party is more for those at home, but on the weekend the influx skyrockets, full cars and trains arrive, the streets are packed day and night and you can barely enter the bars. The party becomes a bit chaotic, it's a matter of finding your place in it.

Running the bulls is only recommended if you are in good physical shape and have not been drinking. It is a violent race, not only because of the bulls, but also because of the large number of runners, which causes pushing and dangerous falls.

In San Fermín everyone dresses in white and red, so if you don't want to look out of place we recommend that you at least wear a white t-shirt and the typical red scarf around your neck.

The party is concentrated in the old town but there are dances and activities scheduled in other neighborhoods.

Bullfights are held every afternoon. The square fills up every day and if you want you can buy the few tickets that remain on the official website www.feriadeltoro.com. You should know, and it is important, that the square is divided into two areas, on the one side where the clubs are located and where people sing and drink at their discretion, taking the art of bullfighting to the background. IF you go out in the sun, bring something to drink and plenty to eat, and appropriate clothing since you will most likely end up drunk and with stained clothes. It is, in short, chaos but very fun. Sombra is something else, people are elegant and go to see the work, yes, once the third bull is over everyone takes out their sandwich and their drinks and the scene becomes lively, without commotion, but with a great atmosphere. And if the afternoon is boring, then drink, eat, sing and continue with the party. If the afternoon is exciting, the bull and bullfighting are king.

WHERE TO SLEEP

It is better that you schedule in advance and make reservations, selecting what suits your needs. There are different offers, hotels, pensions, campsites with bus service, etc.

Many people, especially those who come on the weekend, prefer to resort to spending the night without sleep, or having a bad night's sleep on the same street, which does not guarantee rest. In this case you can leave your backpack or suitcase in a public locker or in the automatic booths at the bus station, for around four or five euros 24 hours a day.

SECURITY

During the day the parties are very safe, you just have to see the number of families with their children going from one place to another. However, you have to be careful, people from all over come to San Fermín to have a good time, but also pickpockets who take advantage of the crowds to commit their crimes. Do not carry valuable things such as watches or jewelry, keep your bag securely fastened and your wallet with the minimum necessary.

During the night, pickpockets persist, taking advantage of the alcoholic state of some uncontrolled individuals. Please note that there is a lot of drinking, which can lead to fights. They are not usually common since the spirit of the party is to have fun but it is already known that, like everywhere, there are people who do not know how to drink, or be, or enjoy life. For all of the latter there is the police, they act quickly and forcefully, so if you have any problem it is best to call them at the emergency number 112 or directly to the regional police at 948 202920.

If you lose something, go to the Lost and Found Office. This office works intensely during the holidays. (+34 948 420 612).

PARK

Parking in Pamplona during San Fermín is complicated. Practically the entire city is a blue zone, and the center is a green zone, that is, only for residents. So you will have to pay for parking. Perhaps it is more practical to use the underground car parks in the Plaza de Toros, the Baluarte or the Plaza del Castillo itself. If you move away from the center you will find areas without a blue zone but you will have to walk a distance until you reach the epicenter of the party. If you have lost your car, the worst case scenario is that the tow truck has taken it away. For any questions, call 948 420 444.

To avoid theft, do not leave anything visible in the parked vehicle.

TRANSPORT

Getting to Pamplona, in addition to your own vehicle, can be done by plane, bus or train. The airport is in the nearby town of Noaín and to go to Pamplona you will have to take a taxi. In general there are few flights and almost always from Madrid or Barcelona. The train station is located somewhat away, you can get to the center by taxi or city bus, and it takes about half an hour to walk to Plaza del Castillo. The bus station is very close to the center, just five minutes away. On weekends the trains and buses usually arrive full of young people ready to enjoy the party.

Once in Pamplona it is best to go everywhere on foot. There is a bus service that reinforces its trips on the weekend and if you want to take a taxi you must go to one of the stops and if there are many people wait in line.
