Iglesia de Santa Maria

The Church of Santa María has medieval origins, although it was renovated by Juan de Landerrain in the 1675th century, acquiring a Renaissance appearance. Of this reform, the capitals with balls and the star vaults with ribs stand out. In 1560, it was expanded with the addition of two chapels, that of La Dolorosa and that of Santo Cristo, both in the Baroque style, with a rectangular floor plan and groin vault. The bell tower dates from the XNUMXth century and the baroque portico from the XNUMXth century. Inside, the main altarpiece stands out, carved around XNUMX in Renaissance style.

The church building is located in the center of a meadow with trees and plants, forming an irregular hexagonal polygon surrounded by ashlar stone. It has two entrances, each flanked by square columns with images sculpted in stone: Saint Peter and Saint Paul in one, and Saint John the Baptist and Saint Mary in the other.

Main Altarpiece

The main Renaissance altarpiece, carved around 1560, presides over the interior of the parish. It is decorated with richly ornamented Corinthian columns and is divided into three bodies:

-Basement: Presents scenes of the Pietà and Christ in the tomb, with a monumental tabernacle in the center.
-First Body: Contains the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Epiphany between columns, and a virgin in the opening that existed for the upper part of the tabernacle.
-Second Body: Represents the Coronation of the Virgin, with the Annunciation and the Visit of the Virgin to Saint Elizabeth on each side.
-Third Body: Includes an image of the Assumption and the busts of Saint Isaiah and Saint Jeremiah.Read more

Ermita de San Juan

The baroque altarpiece, from around 1660-1670, houses a carving of Saint John from the XNUMXth century. This construction dates back to the time of the Catholic Monarchs. Another hermitage, that of San Martín, has already disappeared.

In the church gardens there is an artistic stone fountain from the 17th century, with a cup decorated with two cherubs and a star.
