THE PYRENEES
The Roncal Valley is a hidden space, with its villages of mountain houses in the shadow of the snowy peaks of the Pyrenees. The routes here are more demanding, the peaks are higher, but also the views are more spectacular. After fatigue comes rest in the cozy towns of the valley, all worth visiting.
TWO HIKING ROUTES THROUGH THE RONCAL VALLEY
The first of the routes is relatively short and takes us through the karst landscape of Larra to climb a steep slope to the top of Arlás, from where we will enjoy a wide panoramic view of the Pyrenees. The other route is already big words: the top of the Mesa de los Tres Reyes. Although it goes against the spirit of this guide, due to its distance and exhausting efforts, we include it because it is the highest mountain in Navarra and because it is a very busy and safe route as long as the weather conditions are favorable.

THREE TOURIST VISITS
The town of Roncal is the capital of the valley, and there we will find the tomb of the famous tenor Julián Gayarre, a church that looks like a fortress and some baroque palace from the 18th century, with its porticos and shields. Isaba is not far behind, proud of its traditions, its old houses and its charming corners, among which the hospitality of its people awaits us. Burgui, Uztarroz, Garde, Urzainqui and Vidangoz are the other towns in the valley, each with its own characteristics, but all with their narrow cobbled streets and their beautiful mountain houses.
RONCAL – ERRONKARI
It is the capital of the valley and has a tourist office. It is a town to walk around: go to the Castle neighborhood and look into the threshing floor, visit the church of San Esteban, the laundry or go to the cemetery to see the tomb of the famous tenor Julian Gayarre, with the wonderful sculptures by Benlliure.
ISABA
It is a town with a lot of life. You walk through its narrow cobblestone streets and greet its neighbors who are busy in the gardens, cleaning the doorways, watering the gardens and, ultimately, taking care of their houses and thus beautifying their town.
BURGUI
Burgui is the gateway to the Roncal valley, the southernmost town of all and also the one with the mildest climate. In other times, a castle on the rock dominated the hamlet where the hermitage of the Virgin of the Castle is located today, and since the Middle Ages it had a stone bridge with a photogenic silhouette, through which the migrating shepherds crossed the Esca River on their way to the mountains. Bardenas. A dam or “port” with a steep ramp reminds us of the rafters who descended through the cold waters of the d
